About our Cause:
Bukavu, DR Congo, is a city of 250,000 people which lies at the southern most end of lake Kivu. Following the Rwandan Genocide in 1994, refugees and rebel groups poured into the area making Bukavu a hub of insurgent activity. Since this time, fear and violence has been a way of life for the residents of this lush jungle area, where horrific violence has become commonplace.
There are some in the town who have made it their mission to bring a measure of peace, reconciliation and healing to this area. At MBMSI, we are working with these trusted local partners to offer a variety of services related to peace-building and trauma recovery.
